Essentials Of Aromatherapy

Essentials Of Aromatherapy

Essential oils have long been a staple of spa visits or massages. They can be diffused into the air, added to massage oil, applied directly to the body, or used to personally treat what ails you. If you go back centuries, basic cures for ailments were found using various plants and plant extracts, and what they learned has continued to this day, when we use the same plants for all the good they can provide us. Take eucalyptus for example. It is a fast-growing plant and even evergreen and it comes from Australia. You might think of it as a staple food for koalas at first, but the leaves can be used to make an essential oil that helps reduce coughs, colds, and congestion, is antiseptic, antimicrobial, and great for fighting respiratory problems. As a cream product, it can be used during massage to relieve muscle and joint pain, and as it has a cooling character, it is also great for everyday pain. Bergamot is a citrus-scented oil that is used to treat stress, depression, and anxiety. It also has healing properties and works well in treating skin infections. It also stimulates the liver, spleen, and digestive system. Added to massage oil, bergamot helps you relax as the tension leaves your body. What could be better? Chamomile has long been known as a major sedative. It is popular in tea and also popular in spa settings as it is an anti-depressant and mood enhancer. Chamomile is also used for its antiseptic and antibiotic properties. Tea tree oil is very widely used, so it is no surprise that it is the most popular of the essential oils and is often used in aromatherapy situations. It has many uses, not the least of which is that it is a natural booster of the immune system. It also fights infections, heals the skin of minor cuts and burns, relieves muscle aches, the flu, and even things like athlete's foot! Talk about a multi-purpose essential oil! If you're looking for aromatherapy to relieve hyperactivity, look no further than marjoram. It also relieves anxiety, aids digestion, and helps with problems such as cramps. When massaged, it can help relieve headaches and tension, and also has an anti-fatigue effect.
